Mike Mathioudakis - Full Bio

Early Career & Founding of Genesis Group

Mike attended the University of Notre Dame where he played football and double majored in Accounting and Philosophy.  Upon graduation in 1985, Mike worked for the Indianapolis office of Price Waterhouse.

Mike became a financial advisor in 1987 and has focused his entire career on serving the needs of successful business owners.  Mike has always had a strong passion to help business owners integrate their business, personal, and philanthropic planning to maximize both their impact and their wealth with maximum tax efficiency.

Mike has assisted scores of families in developing and implementing business succession and wealth transfer plans that significantly reduced or completely eliminated capital gains tax, estate tax, and other transfer taxes.

Mike founded The Genesis Group in 1994 and became a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in 1995.  Mike quickly developed clients in many parts of the country, serving clients from Oregon to Arizona to Florida, with large concentrations of clients in Chicago and Indiana.

A Focus On Successful Business Owners

In 1999, Mike became the Senior Managing Director of the Indianapolis office of a boutique broker dealer and wealth advisory firm, which had a network of twenty-five offices across the country. They served the business and financial needs of some of the country’s wealthiest and most successful business owners.

During Mike’s tenure, he developed a large network of successful business owner clients.  In the early 2000s, many of Mike’s business owner clients began implementing succession plans, which resulted in selling their businesses to third parties, selling to ESOPs, or transferring them to family members.  These transactions exceeded $1 billion in total value.

In 2007, at the request of a high net worth client, Mike co-founded and managed an oil and gas exploration and production company, with operations in the Permian Basin of West Texas.  After acquiring a number of oil producing properties in 2008, the company was able to successfully increase production by over seven fold, allowing it to thrive, even when oil prices dropped from nearly $140 per barrel to $35 per barrel.  The company expanded and acquired additional properties from 2010 to 2013. During Mike’s time with the oil company, he was responsible for leading weekly board of directors calls, structuring and coordinating the capital raises, investor communications, legal affairs, accounting, financial and tax reporting as well as the companies’ annual audits.

Genesis Advisors

In 2009, The Genesis Group became Genesis Advisors, LLC, which continued the rich history of The Genesis Group serving the needs of owners of successful closely-held businesses, their families, and their businesses.

Having assisted many of his business owner clients in transitioning out of their businesses, and seeing the extraordinary success of ESOPs he helped establish, Mike is now using his extensive business succession expertise as an ESOP Trustee.  As a passionate supporter of employee-owned companies, Mike is excited to utilize his extensive experience in the business succession arena by serving employee-owned companies in this capacity.

Mike is also a managing member of Genesis Development Group, which developed, owns, and manages class A office buildings in Fishers, IN.
